Description

This lesson is designed for AP® World History Modern, Unit 1 Topic 1.2: Developments in Dar al-Islam. The lesson includes a lecture with detailed speaker notes, a guided notes packet, a timeline project, video questions, and an SAQ prompt to supplement the lecture. Details of what is included:

The lecture slides, guided notes, and video questions all come with Google versions for easy digital assignment. The timeline project is designed to work as a hardcopy only.

Please take a look at the to see the lesson materials in detail.

The slides in the lecture have editable body text. You will also find 4 PNG images that can be inserted as backgrounds if you want to add your own information to the lectures while keeping the same style. Simply insert the pictures and then add text boxes to fit your needs.

The Dar al-Islam lecture covers the following topics:

The timeline project is a whole-class project in which students can work in pairs or small groups to research an assigned topic within this topic and time period. Each group will add their research to a 6.5' long timeline posted in your classroom. It's a fun way to display the major events and people from Developments in Dar al-Islam while giving students a break from lectures and textbook readings. Included is the timeline, student instructions, teacher notes, and event cards.

The speaker notes contain a wealth of information that will help give the teacher more background and details on each topic. This is perfect for first year teachers of AP® World, but it also provides some excellent "nuggets" that aren't typically found in many of the commonly used textbooks for the course.

The next lecture, Developments in South and Southeast Asia, can be found here. I highly recommend using the full set of lectures for Unit 1 if you would like to have a cohesive feel to your instruction. Students love the guided notes and have commented that they are a "game changer" for AP® classes.
